Happy Teacher Appreciation Week! Happy Mother's Day!

This week, two very important things are on the calendar: Teacher Appreciation Week and Mother’s Day. We should rename this week National Superhero Week, don’t you think?! What’s our secret power? Love.  My daughter says she has two angels in her life: her momma and her teacher. Mothers are teachers and teachers are like mothers to their students. Every day our children watch us, listen to us and learn from us. This is sometimes a heavy burden, but is always a precious gift and calling. We hold a high position of influence to impact the next generation. And so to every imperfect but amazing teacher and momma out there who shows up every day to do the hardest, best job on the earth… I celebrate you!

I want to encourage you this week with one of my favorite scriptures that strengthens me on my hardest days: Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up (Galatians 6:9).

We reap what we sow. If you are a mom or teacher reading this, I know you sow love into your work every day with your superhero powers.  I know that, like me, sometimes you make mistakes; sometimes you’re the one throwing the temper tantrum; sometimes you want to quit.

But you don’t.  Because you love.  And love is the greatest power that exists.

Your love is planting seeds in a child’s heart that are producing courage, acceptance, perseverance, kindness and joy. Your love makes them spring out of bed (or if they’re a teenager, crawl out of bed like a sloth) knowing there will be good in their day. Your love makes them lie down at night and sleep in peace.

Mom and teacher friend, you are truly joining God in eternal, life-giving work. Your labor is not in vain, and at just the right time, you will reap a breath-taking harvest if you do not give up.

So keep on keeping on. What you do everyday matters. Can I pray one of my favorite scripture blessings on you before we part ways today?

The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace (Numbers 6:24-26).

Happy Teacher Appreciation Week! Happy Mother’s Day! Happy Superheroes Week!
