Lord, Expose Our Unreal Expectations

Welcome back to Week 3 of Wife Army ‘15! We’re wrapping up Week 3! Here is today’s Action Point, our week's Prayer Point, a quote and a Scripture Prayer for your marriage.

“Marriage is great when two people enter into it with a mutual commitment to keep it strong no matter what. But often a couple will have preconceived ideas about who the other is and how married life is supposed to be, and then reality hits. That’s when their kingdom can become divided. You have to continually pray that any unreal expectations be exposed and all incompatibilities be smoothed out so that you grow together in a spirit of unity, commitment, and a bond of intimacy. Pray that your marriage is a place where two agree so God will be in the midst of it (Matthew 18:19-20).”- Stormie Omartian, The Power of a Praying Wife

Action Point: Write 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 on a dry erase board or note card, and put it in a place where you will see it often. Meditate on it and pray it next time you need a reminder about God’s definition of love.

Prayer Point 3: Your husband is not the enemy. Don’t fight him. Pray for him!

Scripture Prayer

God, thank you that your Word gives us rules for holy living. Teach (husband’s name) and me to be more holy. Help us set our hearts and minds on things above, not on earthly things. For we died to ourselves and our life is now hidden with Christ.

Help us put to death whatever belongs to our earthly nature; selfishness, sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. Help us rid ourselves of anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language. Set us free from past hurts, memories, and ties from previous relationships, and unrealistic expectations of one another.

Teach us to love in the way your Word teaches us. Love is patient. Love is kind. It does not envy. It does not boast. It is not proud. It is not rude. It is not self-seeking. It is not easily angered. It keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil, but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.

We cannot love each other without your help, Lord. Help us. We need you every hour of every day. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen!

Colossians 3:1-9; 1 Corinthians 13:4-8
