Moms (aka: First Responders)

Moms (aka: First Responders)

Through the course of a typical day, a mother can utilize the skills of several occupations. We go from being the cook, to the accountant, to the teacher, to the psychiatrist. But more often than not, I’d say that we’re first responders. We seem to be at the receiving end of a plethora of emergencies on a daily basis.  At any given moment we have to be ready to meet an immediate need with brilliance and strategy. Our people come to us with a life threatening “my brother hit me” issue or an “I’m Starving!” case of emergency and we hop into action to aid the patient. However, many of our daily ER situations produced from the heart’s of our children could be avoided by taking preventative actions.

Health insurance companies place heavy emphasis on preventative care. They urge us to take our kids to their primary care physician on a regular basis. Why? Because they know that if you take your child to visit their primary doctor regularly, the likelihood that you will need to take them to the emergency room is slim. And so is the costs of a primary care visit as oppose to an emergency room visit.

This principle works the same for the spiritual health of our children. Preventative care is key! As first responders, our first action in protecting the spiritual health of our children is to take preventative steps. “A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart. What you say flows from what is in your heart.” Luke 6:45. This truth gives us a clear picture of where we need to apply the preventative care. If what flows from us is directly produced from the heart, the heart is where the care should be administered. Our prayer and vigilant care for the hearts of our children will keep us from visiting the spiritual emergency room so often.

Regular heart checkups help us recognize heart issues early on so that we can bring the heart of our children to the Lord in prayer and petition. But as mothers we must first be diligent in the preventative prayer that will protect, prepare, and present to the Lord the hearts of our children. We can trust the Father with the heart of the child that He has given us, so let’s make our first step in preventative care be SURRENDER! Together let’s surrender the hearts of our children to the Lord.

Now #MomArmy15, let’s pray like our kid’s lives depend on it! You may use the scripture prayer below and insert your child’s name when you see a blank. Or feel free to use other scriptures God has placed on your heart. We would love it if you typed at least one sentence of your prayer in the comments section or left a comment that shares your heart with us. We love you!

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, thank you for the blessing of motherhood. Today, I choose to trust  and surrender to you all of ___________, including his/her heart. Lord forgive me where I have failed to trust you with your child. God please produce in _____________ an urgency to keep his/her heart with all vigilance (Prov. 4:23). Create in _____________ a heart of good treasure (Luke 6:45) that loves You fully (Luke 10:27). Teach _____________ Your ways and to keep Your word hidden in his/her heart (Ps. 119:11-12). Lord protect _______________’s heart as you work to form it in your will. Thank you Father for loving _______________ more than I ever will! In Jesus name Amen!
