Weapons of Mass Destruction

Happy Valentine’s Day, sweet friend! I’m so glad you’re back with me this week to learn about the weapons of mass destruction God gives us as wives! Hmmm, Valentine’s Day and weapons of mass destruction...I just realized what a funny partnership that is, yet perfectly fitting for a dynamite marriage! So grab your box of cream-filled chocolates and let’s go destroy some strongholds! If you didn’t read my blog last week, “Boxing Gloves, Walls and Marriage,” make sure you do that. This post is the second part of that blog.

God says the weapons he gives us are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds (2 Corinthians 10:4).

What is a stronghold? My favorite Bible teacher, Beth Moore, describes a stronghold as “anything that exalts itself in our minds, pretending to be bigger or more powerful than our God. It steals our focus and causes us to feel overpowered. Controlled. Mastered.” In marriage, it can take the form of bitterness, anger, resentment, unforgiveness, pride, selfishness, disease, fear, despair, hate, loss, dead feelings. The list could go on, I’m sure.

Strongholds chain you to hopelessness. They steal your joy and the abundant life Jesus died to give you. They consume you and leave you feeling weak and powerless.

BUT, WE HAVE A GOD IS WHO BIGGER THAN ANYTHING YOU FACE RIGHT NOW! It’s important to burn into your brain that the stronghold only seems bigger. It only pretends to be bigger. But, it is, in fact, NOTHING, when compared to the greatness of our God. No thing can stand against our God. And, you, dear sister, have been given authority, as a daughter of the Most High God, to demolish the stronghold using God’s weapons of divine power and mass destruction! Can I get an “AMEN!” So, what are these weapons?!

God’s Word and Spirit-empowered prayer.

Eph. 6:17, The Message, says,”God’s Word is an indispensable weapon. In the same way, prayer is essential in this ongoing warfare. Pray hard and long.”

I’d like to share a portion of Beth Moore’s teaching with you on this topic of demolishing strongholds. It’s a dynamite teaching.

These two weapons (prayer and God’s Word) have divine power. The original Greek work for “power” is the adjective form of the term “dunamai”, meaning, “to be able.” It is the achieving power of God applied. Perhaps this Greek term might pack a little more punch if we meditated on the fact that our English word “dynamite” comes from the same root word.

Stick with me here, because this is important. Virtually nothing we come against has more power than a stronghold. The very nature of the term tells us that whatever it is, it has a “strong hold” on us. Strongholds can’t be swept away with a spiritual broom. We can’t fuss at them and make them flee. We can’t ignore them until they disappear. Strongholds are broken one way only. Demolish them!

Have you ever seen a building demolished? The most common way to demolish a modern “fortress” is by deliberately and strategically placing dynamite in the building and then detonating it. Imagine the demolition crew showing up at the building with sticks and stones. They could yell at that building with all their might and throw sticks and stones until they fainted from exhaustion, and it would still be standing. No one would doubt they had tried. They simply had the wrong tools. What they needed was dynamite.

God has handed us two sticks of dynamite with which to demolish our strongholds: His Word and prayer. What is more powerful than two sticks of dynamite placed in separate locations? Two strapped together.

Prayer and scripture strapped together is POWER!

I’d like to dig a little into why each of these weapons is so powerful, so let’s save that for next week! I’m loving this topic of marriage, aren’t you?! One of these days I’m going to write a Bible study and have weekly teaching sessions and discussions! My dream is to get God’s Word into you like the sugar in that box of chocolates is getting into your blood stream right now! It’s so sweet. It’s so delicious. And, it keeps you coming back for more! I love you so much! See you next week!
