But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. Luke 2:19

Application

This beautiful verse, tucked into the story of Jesus' birth, connects me as a mom, to Mary, the woman hand-picked by God to be Jesus' mom. Mary had been told many wonderful and amazing things about the baby boy she now held in her arms. Others had also heard and were amazed, but soon forgot and returned to life as usual. But, not Mary! She knew that the words proclaimed by God were worth keeping in her heart. Those words were a treasure to her and she would meditate on them daily.

God has also declared many wonderful things to us about our precious children. His Word is full of truths proclaiming their creation, purpose, destiny, gifts and talents. His promises announce blessings, provision, protection and hope. As moms, do we soak in and believe what God says about our kids? Or, are we just momentarily amazed by it and then forget as the challenges of parenting distract us?

Let us not forget, but believe and treasure up each word! Look into your child's eyes and ponder what has been declared! Let it fill you with wonder at what God is about to do in their lives. And, as you see God's word fulfilled, bow down and worship the One Mary held in her arms on that holy Christmas night so very long ago. In the town of Bethlehem, in a lowly stable, our Savior was born. That baby boy is now exalted to the highest place and given the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father (Phil. 2:9-11).
